Introduction

Around the world there is food crisis, not every individual can have three meals per days. In such a situation having a healthy nutritious meal is really a huge question. Present days out of the emerging global problems are Malnutrition and Vitamin deficiencies are also becoming the points of worry. It is very essential to ensure that the food we take has the sufficient amounts of nutrients. This is because the globally there are around 3-5 million deaths recorded due to the deficiencies and the others are suffering with disorders which have also have the ability to pass through the future generations.

Food Fortification is a method which is developed to fight against Malnutrition and various mineral and vitamin deficiencies. In this procedure micronutrients like trace elements, vitamins are added to food which are mostly consumed by the people like staple food and food daily taken. The foods which are usually fortified are beverages, oils, cereals, fats and infant formulas such as cerelac etc., During the processing the food many of the nutrients are lost which are later added to it. But in case of fortification we added the elements that are not present in the composition of the particular food.

Vitamin B In India, the based on the survey the most deficient elements are Iron, folic acid, iodine and Vitamin A. So the government has taken initiative and started food fortification of foods which are mostly consumed under the daily basis. The common salt is fortified with iodine to fight the iodine deficiency, the cooking oils are fortified with Vitamin A and Vitamin D, pulses which we consume are fortified with iron. This process cannot totally eradicate the problem but it can fight up to an extent. Many developed nations have passed laws stating the vitamins to be added to the staple food, it changes from nation to nation based on the deficiencies.

Food fortification is has been a great initiative to fight malnutrition and under-nutrition. These have greatly affected the children and female population of many countries and also lead to the many fetal abnormalities as the mothers did not have proper food to have which affected the new born with many neuro degenerative disorders. This has ensured the raise of nutritional status of the country and also fought many deficiency disorders like Goitre, Anaemia, eye sight problems, Bone disorders etc.,
