Special Issue: Coronavirus(COVID-19) Outbreak-Update on Diagnosis and Treamtent

The outbreak of COVID-19 swept across china rapidly and has spread to 195 countries/territories/areas outside of china as of 26 March 2020. (According to WHO DATA)We have summarized the current knowledge of SARS-CoV-2 as follow: the emergeing pneumonia COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 exhibits strong infectivity but less virulence, compared to SARS and MERS, in terms of morbidity and mortality. Originating from reservoir of bats and unknown intermediate hosts. SARS-CoV-2 bind to ACE2 with high affinity as a virus receptor to infect human. The susceptible population involve the elderly and people with certain underlying medical conditions and the last the supporting treatments combined with potent antiviral drugs such as remdesivir, chloroquine have been conducted with definite effect on treat COVID-19 patients, while solid data from more clinical trials are needed. The first case originated the infection was transmitted probably as zoonotic agent i.e. from animal to human; the second transmission after closing the market was from human to human which is more dangerous and difficult to control. So social distancing is the main factor to break the chain. WHO is palying major role in controlling the spread of this virus. WHO is working with all the governments of countries and helping by making available resources needed to control the disease. Many advisories are published by WHO to aware people and methods to control the spread of the virus. Till 26 March 2020 no treatment is available, only protection and social distancing is the only tool to escape this disease. “It will be important to get answers quickly, to try to find out what works and what doesn’t work. We think that randomized evidence is the best way to do that.”
