Xi Chen obtained the PharmD degree at the Harbin Medical University, China in 2011. Worked as a pharmacist in Department of Pharmacy, the 1st Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University. Collaborated with research projects at the National-State Key Laboratory of Biomedicine. In 2011 was admitted to the PhD program of University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2012 transferred to the PhD Program in Molecular and Integrative Physiology at University of Michigan, and conducted cardiovascular research in Center for Arrhythmia Research. The long-term goal of my study is to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms that lead to arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death. My current research focuses on regulation of Ca2+ in cardiomyocytes, which plays a crucial role in heart function. The role of Ryanodine Receptor, the Ca2+-gated Ca2+ channel inserted in sarcoplasmic reticulum, and its regulatory proteins, are highlighted in my study. By using a combination of electrophysiological, biochemical, optical mapping, Ca2+ imaging, and gene manipulating techniques, I would like to find out the kinetic properties of Ca2+ homeostasis in normal and diseased hearts.
