Lifen Yan completed her Ph.D. at University of California at Davis, with a broad background in physics, optics, and material science. As a spectroscopist, she develops spectroscopic techniques and measurements to address contemporary issues in bioinorganic chemistry. Her research has been focused on characterizing the structure of bioinorganic materials and processes, like nitrogenase and photosynthesis. She has significant experience with diverse techniques like synchrotron-radiation-based X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption spectroscopy and nuclear resonant spectroscopy, as well as lab-based FT-IR, Resonant Raman, Mossbauer and EPR spectroscopies. Currently, her interest is focused on large-scale data analysis for microscopy and time-resolved spectroscopy with advanced machine learning algorithms.

Research Interest

Develops spectroscopic techniques and uses them to address contemporary issues in bioinorganic chemistry and metalloproteins. Specialized in synchrotron radiation analytical techniques with strength in material characterization, data interpretation and technique development. Interested in the usage of machine learning to guide material discovery and to automate synchrotron data analysis.
