Biography
Dr. Salim Surani currently works as the Director of Medical Critical Care services at Christus Spohn Hospitals-Corpus Christi. He serves as Associate Professor of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine d at Texas A&M University and University of North Texas. He also serves as the program director for Pulmonary & Critical Care Fellowship Program at Bay Area Medical Center, Corpus Christi. He has done his fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston Texas. Dr. Surani has done his Masters in Public Health & Epidemiology from Yale University and Masters in Health Management from University of Texas, Dallas. Dr. Surani also currently serves as secretary of THE CHEST Foundation. Dr. Surani has authored more than 100 articles in the peer review journals, and has written several books and book chapters. He is involved in teaching residents for almost two decades. He has been instrumental in starting Emergency Medicine residency program, Pharmacy residency program and pulmonary and critical care residency program. He has been named as faculty of the year award numerous times. He has served as an independent grant reviewer for Government of Australia, as well as European Nation via Rannis. Dr. Surani serves as an associate editor for current respiratory medicine review & critical care and shock. He also serves as ad hoc reviewer for more than 20 journals. He has served as a speaker in several regional, national and international scientific conferences. Dr. Surani serves as Thursday morning health segment for Channel III news Corpus Christi. He has also served in committee for several national organizations and has received several communities and teaching awards, including Health Care Hero award, Humanitarian awards by American College of Physician, American College of Chest Physicians and Texas Medical Association. Dr. Surani is also the founding president of It?s Your Life Foundation, a community educational foundation which has reached more than 100,000 children. He has also been instrumental in developing several animated health education movies. His movies have won eight international movie awards at Worldfest Film festival and American Pixar Academy. Dr. Surani is highly regarding among his peers and is very well respected as a mentor, clinician and humanitarian.
