Biography
Professor Jace Pillay is currently a South African Research Chair in Education and Care in Childhood at the University of Johannesburg. He is registered with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an educational and counselling psychologist. In the last decade he has made significant contributions in the field of psychopathology and in educational, counselling and community psychology. His current research focuses on enhancing the mental health of orphans and vulnerable children through the assessment of vulnerability and protective factors as embedded in their families/caregivers, schools and communities. As an academic he has strong international collaborations, numerous publications, addressed many international conferences, reviewed articles for numerous journals, serves as a Senior Associate Editor for an international psychology journal, edited special editions of highly reputable journals, and produced numerous postgraduate students. His research has been supported by various grants he was able to obtain over the years.
 
Research Interest
Current research focuses on enhancing the mental health of orphans and vulnerable children through the assessment of vulnerability and protective factors as embedded in their families/caregivers, schools and communities.
