Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences which involve the scientific study of cosmic objects like as stars, planets, comets, and galaxies. It is a phenomenon that occurs outside the Earth’s atmosphere. It involves evolution, physics, chemistry, meteorology, and motion of celestial objects, formation and development of the universe. In the olden days astronomers used to undergo methodical observations of the night sky and astronomical artifacts have been found from much earlier periods. But, the invention of the telescope was made necessary before astronomy was able to develop into a modern science.

In the ancient times, astronomy has included several castigations such as astrometry, celestial navigation, observational astronomy, the making of calendars, and even more. From 20th century, the field of professional astronomy was divided into observational and theoretical branches. Observational astronomy involves acquisition and analysis of data with the use of basic principles of physics. Theoretical astronomy focuses on the development of computer models which helps in the description of astronomical objects and phenomena.
