The process of bringing a new pharmaceutical drug once a lead compound has been identified through the process of drug discovery and improving methods in drug discovery is called Drug Design and Development. Rational drug design develops fewer compounds compared to high-throughput screening. However, these compounds are very specific to the target and use computer-based modelling to achieve this specificity.

Drug Discovery: Drug discovery is the process of identifying a new a chemical or active pharmaceutical ingredient which is used for treating any particular disease is called as drug discovery. During drug discovery, an intensive search ensues to find a drug-like small molecule or biological therapeutic, typically termed a development candidate, that will progress into preclinical, and if successful, into clinical development and ultimately be a marketed medicine.

Molecular evolution is a theory, stating that any time of divergence between genes, proteins, or lineages can be dated simply by measuring the number of changes between sequences. Molecular evolution emerged in the 1960s as researchers sought to understand discoveries surrounding the evolutionary patterns, structure and function of nucleic acids and protein as well as the use of these molecules in studies of phylogenetics, population genetics, biogeography, and other areas of research and at different levels of biological organization.
Phylogenetic reconstruction is a fast-growing field that is enriched by different statistical approaches and by findings and applications in a broad range of biological areas. phylogenetic reconstruction methods have greatly benefited from recent developments in molecular biology and sequencing technologies with a number of powerful methods having been developed specifically to infer phylogenies from macromolecular data.
It is a technology which is used to measure the expression levels of large numbers of genotype multiple regions of a genome or genes simultaneously. microarray technology may be defined as a high-throughput and versatile technology used for parallel gene expression analysis for thousands of genes of known and unknown function, or DNA homology analysis for detecting polymorphisms and mutations in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic genomic DNA.
Bio nanotechnology is a branch of nanotechnology which uses biological starting materials is applies in medicine or utilises biological design or biotechnology. Bionanotechnology has become an exciting field of research and an area of technology development, especially since the length scale nanotechnology can access more and more coincides with the length scale of basic biological structures and fundamental biological components.
Pharmacodynamics is a study of physiological effects and biochemical effects of drugs in an organism. Simply described as what a drug does to the body. The pharmacodynamic process describes all those issues concerned with the pharmacological actions of a drug, whether they are intended aspects of the therapeutic effect (efficacy). Originally, pharmacodynamics was the primary interest of patient studies, although efficacy assessment has become increasingly important in phase 1 studies.

Pharmacokinetics is the study of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion in the body. Simply described as what the body does to a drug.Pharmacokinetics is primarily concerned with the analysis of concentration and rate of drug availability to the required receptor site. pharmacokinetic analysis is not usually limited to the parent drug molecule itself, but also identified metabolites, whether active or inactive.

Genomics is a study within genetics that concerns the analysis and sequencing of an organism’s gen. Genome-based research is already enabling medical researchers to develop improved diagnostics, more effective therapeutic strategies, evidence-based approaches for demonstrating clinical efficacy, and better decision-making tools for patients and providers. Ultimately, it appears inevitable that treatments will be tailored to a patient's particular genomic makeup. Thus, the role of genetics in health care is starting to change profoundly and the first examples of the era of genomic medicine are upon us.
Systems biotechnology covers the concepts and methodologies used in systems-level analysis of biomedical systems. Systems biology has been changing the way biological and biotechnological research is performed. Now, systems biological approaches can be taken to develop bioprocesses for the production of valuable drugs, commodity and fine chemicals, fuels, and polymers and other materials
CADD offers an in-depth discussion of the computer-assisted techniques used to discover, design, and development of new, effective, and safe drugs. Strategies for CADD vary depending on the extent of structural and other information available regarding the target (enzyme/receptor) and the ligands. Computer-aided drug design (CADD) is an exciting and diverse discipline where various aspects of applied and basic research merge and stimulate each other. In the early stage of a drug discovery process, researchers may be faced with little or no structure activity relationship (SAR) information
