Oceanography Innovations

Oceanography is that the study of oceans of the planet. This area of study is additionally referred to as oceanology or marine science, is really a subset of the branch of natural science that studies the ocean. Oceanography encompasses the four main sub fields, viz., biological oceanography which deals with the study of marine life emphasizing directly on the marine organisms; chemical oceanography which deals with the study of ocean water composition, ocean processes and cycles and therefore the chemical interaction of ocean water with the environment and sea floor; physical oceanography which deals with the study of physical setting and processes within the ocean like waves, currents and tides, the transport of sand, coastal erosion and coastal degradation and therefore the interactions of the atmosphere with the ocean; geological oceanography which deals with the study of processes that shape its mountains, canyons, and valleys. This sub field also demonstrates about tectonics, oceanic circulation and influence of oceans on climatic changes. Hence Oceanography may be a multidisciplinary field which needs a deep understanding of biology, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, geology, geophysics, geography, hydrology, climatology and meteorology. Of this knowledge is employed to know some important theories like ocean acidification, ocean currents, mapping of methane hydrate deposits, weathering and thermal flux.
