Abstract

The objective of this work is to show to the lay public and other related specialties such as pediatrics, pediatric neurology, obstetrics and family medicine, the importance of ophthalmologic evaluation to the prevention of irreversible vision damage in each of the stages of development of children and adolescents. To inform that prevention of blindness is allied to the knowledge and social infrastructure where the individual is included and that the prevention and minimization of damage to the vision and development of the child, obey three stages, viz. 1st stage: prevent disease; 2nd stage: to prevent sequels in the best way; 3rd stage: treat the sequels making available all the knowledge involved. This work was developed and presented in classes for the future parents in the information program for pregnant women of the Hospital Center of Unimed.
