Dipyrromethane as sensors-A review

Synthesis, conformations and anion binding sensor studies of dipyrromethanes with their applications have been summarized. Synthesis of dipyrromethanes with strong or mild acids as catalyst have been discussed. Methods to synthesize differentially functionalized dipyrromethanes and elaboration of dipyrromethanes with suitable electrophilic reagents have also been described. Conformations of dipyrromethanes and and factors affecting the conformations are discussed in detail. Anion binding studies of dipyrromethanes and factors that influence the binding affinities are described. Applications of dipyrromethanes viz optical sensors, catalysts, high performance imaging probes and polymer electrochromic device etc have also been discribed.
