Schizophrenia may be a complex, chronic psychological state disorder characterized by an array of symptoms, including delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech or behavior, and impaired cognitive ability. the first onset of the disease, along side its chronic course, make it a disabling disorder for several patients and their families.1 Disability often results from both negative symptoms (characterized by loss or deficits) and cognitive symptoms, like impairments in attention, memory , or executive function.2 additionally , relapse may occur due to positive symptoms, like suspiciousness, delusions, and hallucinations.1,2 The inherent heterogeneity of schizophrenia has resulted during a lack of consensus regarding the disorder’s diagnostic criteria, etiology, and pathophysiology.1,3

This article provides a concise review of schizophrenia and discusses the available treatment options.
