Proteomics Online Journals

Proteomics is an analysis of a cell , tissue, or organism 's entire protein complement under a specific, defined set of conditions. It is dependent upon decades of technological and instrumental developments in its present state. These developments included advances in technology for mass spectrometry (MS), techniques for protein fractionation, bioinformatics and so on. Proteomics relies on three basic technological cornerstones which include a method for fractionating complex protein or peptide mixtures, MS for acquiring the data needed to identify individual proteins, and bioinformatics for analyzing and assembling. Although MS and bioinformatic components are very similar in most applications, there are two distinct methods in proteomics for separating complex protein samples. This separation technology is currently the most common method of separation used in proteomics. Advances in this technology have allowed the resolution of thousands of proteins in a single gel.
