Health tourism may be a niche tourism developed by the competing tourism promoting countries so as to draw in people travelling with the prime purpose of getting healthcare. This chapter depicts the concept and history of health tourism, health tourism trends and health tourism potentials of India.

noun. tourist travel for the aim of receiving medical treatment or improving health or fitness: The spiraling cost of healthcare has contributed to the expansion of medical tourism. Also called health tourism.

Is health tourism a problem?

Official figures prove that figures on fraudulent and free health tourism within the UK are misleading. The UK government has regularly claimed that European immigrants and health tourists charging the NHS for care costs of £18.7 million a year because of misuse of the ecu Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
