Biogeography is the study of geographic distribution of plants, animals, and other forms of life. It is concerned not only with habitation patterns but also with the factors responsible for variations in distribution. General view of speciation is a central phenomenon in evolution, and that most speciation is allopatric speciation assumes that geography plays a central role: some geographic feature divides a species range in two or more parts and over time speciation is achieved. It refers to the distribution of various species and ecosystems geographically and throughout geological time and space. Biogeography is often studied in the context of ecological and historical factors which have shaped the geographical distribution of organisms over time. Specifically, species might vary geographically based on the habitat, segregation, latitude, and elevation. The sub discipline of biogeography includes zoogeography and phytogeography, which involve the distribution of animals and plants.
