This chapter discusses the many and evolving roles of older cares and the impact of these roles on caregivers' well-being and well-being. It describes the responsibilities of caring for a person, the motivating nature of time management, the complexity and breadth of care responsibilities, and the issues involved in making limited decisions. Family care is more intensive, more complex, and more time-consuming than in the past and caregivers rarely get enough preparation for their role. The body of compelling evidence suggests that many caregivers are experiencing severe psychological consequences. Some caregivers are at higher risk than others, especially those who spend long hours caring for adults with advanced dementia. Caregivers should be able to access high-quality, evidence-based interventions designed to reduce or prevent adverse health effects.
