Pharmacology is a study of science that explains chemical, biological and therapeutic activity of drugs on biological systems. It mainly focus on the treatment and prevention of major diseases by drug therapy. Pharmacology is also involved in molecular modelling of drugs. It provides in depth knowledge about drug action that lead to novel therapies to support life.

Pharmacognosy is the study of drugs from plant origin. It is the study of physical, chemical, biochemical and biological properties of potential drugs of natural origin. It deals with identification, evaluation and quantification of plant materials for medicinal use. It focuses on biological effects of chemicals and medicinal plants derivatives on animals and humans.

Pharmaceutical formulation is the study of various combinations of chemical compounds to form a drug of medicinal use. It mainly deals with chemical quality, quantification and determining the dosage to provide purest form of drugs for targeted use. Analysis of drugs are done after formulation based on biochemical properties and precised quality control measures.

Biochemistry is a laboratory based science dealing with the chemical processes occurring in living organisms. It is an interdisciplinary science with knowledge of both chemistry and biology. By using the knowledge of chemical processes and techniques biochemists understand and solve biological problems. It majorly focuses on processes at molecular and cellular level dealing with proteins lipids enzymes and etc.

The importance of natural products with theraputic value from the nature for health and disease treatment has been immense throughout the human evolution. Several natural products derived from plants for thousands of years have been traditionally used to treat various types of human illnesses including general injuries, wound healing, and pain. Natural products have been shown to possess significant pharmacological activities that regulate various vital cell signaling pathways that cause mitogenic, cytotoxic, and genotoxic reactions leading to various disease pathologies.

Biopharmaceutics examines the interrelationship of the physical/chemical properties of the drug, the dosage form (drug product) in which the drug is given, and the route of administration on the rate and extent of systemic drug absorption. The importance of the drug substance and the drug formulation on absorption, and in vivo distribution of the drug to the site of action, is described as a sequence of events that precede elicitation of a drug's therapeutic effect.

Clinical trials are research studies that test how well new medical approaches work in people. Each study answers scientific questions and tries to find better ways to prevent, screen for, diagnose, or treat a disease. Every clinical trial has a protocol, or action plan, for conducting the trial. The plan describes what will be done in the study, how it will be conducted, and why each part of the study is necessary. Each study has its own rules about who can take part. Some studies need volunteers with a certain disease. Some need healthy people. Others want just men or just women.

The different drugs used to relieve pain are called opioids or narcotics, opioids provide an intoxicating high when injected or taken orally in high doses. Hence there are high chances of their abuse. Drug abuse is Compulsive, excessive, and self-damaging use of habit forming drugs or substances, leading to addiction or dependence, serious physiological injury (such as damage to kidneys, liver, heart) and/or psychological harm (such as dysfunctional behavior patterns, hallucinations, memory loss), or death.
