Abstract

Heterogeneous group of tumors, arising from connective tissues (derived from mesenchyme) Rare type of cancer (1% of all malignancy) that can occur in any part of the body be it skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, adipose cells, blood or lymphatic vessels.
More than 50 different tumor entities, commonly mimicking some benign pathology (lipoma, hyer trophic scar, hematoma, abscess. They most commonly occur in the extremities, with 40% of all STS, as compared to intra peritoneal or retroperitoneal sarcomas. Predominantly in the lower limbs (28%) with thigh being the most common site (44% of all extremity STS). The median age of diagnosis is 59 years. Bimodal distribution peaking in the 5th and 8th decades. Though different studies or case reports been done in this field, the north-eastern part ofIndia remains lagging in the field of proper research activity on soft tissue sarcoma.

To document rare cases, their management in hospital setup, To enhance patient outcome, knowledge and future research activities. This study has been conducted in Department of Surgery, Assam Medical college and hospital, Dibrugarh from the period January 2021 to April 2022. Study type: Prospective consecutive clinical case series. The patients are followed up within the study period.
