Abstract

Vaccination for Elderly with Mild Dementia

There were 43.6% of the elderly population receiving vaccine in 2018-19, while the vaccination rate was only 8.8% among the 50-64 age group. Howbeit, what is the vaccination rate of elderly with mild dementia and their personal caretakers? The vaccination rate of a statistic from the elderly with mild dementia of the Dementia Community Support Scheme is 55%, yet that of personal caretakers is only 22.5%. It is far lower than the vaccination coverage (80%) that establishes the herd immunity.

Workshops and home visits with individual tailor-made training of the prevention of influenza emphasized the importance of vaccination provided to both the elderly with mild dementia and their personal caretakers. Personal caretakers are required to involve in the training as they are trained to supervise the elderly
