A comparative study of social beliefs and health facilities utilization among tribal and urban population of Valsad district

Health is a very important aspect for healthy, wealthy and prosperous life. Importance of health is well-reflected by the proverb “good health is above wealth” and by one Greek proverb saying “Without Health life is not life, life is lifeless”. Definition of health as given by WHO is “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely an absence of disease or infirmity; (recently amplified to include-) and an ability to lead a socially and economically productive life”. 

Common beliefs, customs and practices connected with health and disease have been found to be related with treatment of disease. The health problems of rural especially of the tribal need special attention because the tribal people have distinct health problems related beliefs like some tribal groups still believe that disease is caused by hostile spirit or by some taboos
