Obesity is described as the accumulation of fat in the
human body beyond the amount required for the normal
body function. This continuous accumulation of fats results
weight gain. Obesity has reached wide range in global,
with more than 1 billion adults overweight - at least 300
million of them clinically obese - and is a major contributor
to the global burden of chronic disease and disability. . The
term “Bariatric Surgery” defines as a collective group of
procedures that involve modifications to the digestive
system that promote weight loss. Endocrinology continues
to be a lead science. Many Nobel Prizes have recognized
the contributions of endocrinologists. The initial cloned
gene products to reach the clinical pharmaceutical market
were endocrine substances. Many advances in our
understanding of cellular transduction systems, receptor
binding, and physiologic regulation are derivatives of the
studies conducted in endocrine laboratories.
