Palliative care, also increasingly referred to as Supportive Care, could also be one among the foremost misunderstood terms in healthcare. ... But palliative care is different from hospice, and when put in situ, palliative care can bring hope, control, and an opportunity at a far better quality of life for seriously ill patients and their caregivers.
The goal of supportive care is to prevent or treat as early as possible the symptoms of a disease, side effects caused by treatment of a disease, and psychological, social, and spiritual problems associated with a disease or its treatment. Also called comfort care, palliative care, and symptom management.
