Developing and Validating the Women's HIV Self-Management Scale, a new HIV prevention measure, defined as the daily decisions people make to manage their illness.
Development and validation of the scale is done in three phases: focus groups, expert review and psychometric evaluation. Focus groups identified factors that explain the process and content of abstinence for women living with HIV / AIDS (WLHA). Items were sorted using expert review and then submitted to WLHA at two U.S. sites. (N = 260). The robustness of the scale was evaluated by factor analysis, linear model statistics, reliability tests, and regression and true discrimination.
The final level consists of 3 domains containing 20 factors that explain the formation of HIV controls. Daily self-management practices, Social Support and HIV self-management, and the Chronicity of self-management have three categories. These domains explained 48.6% of the total variance in the scale. The item means scores range from 1.7-2.77, with each domain showing acceptable reliability (0.72-0.86) and resilience (0.61-0.85).
