These occurs due to the accumulation of unconjugated bilirubin. In infants it's a traditional process of accumulation of unconjugated bilirubin but in some cases the amount of bilirubin increases and become neurotoxic to infants results in death. So newborns should be diagnosed regularly.
Mothers are frequently the primary to watch the onset of jaundice in their newborn infants before the choice to hunt treatment. However, simple-to-use tools that would facilitate early detection of jaundice and assist mothers to hunt professional care, especially after hospital discharge, are rare. This study therefore, began to guage the performance of a -two-color icterometer (Bilistrip™) as a possible screening tool for detecting significant jaundice by mothers or care-givers within the first week of life.
