While management information systems can be used by any level of management, the decision on which systems to use often comes down to the senior information executive (CIO) and senior technology executive (CTO). These officers are generally responsible for the organization's technical strategy including exploring how the new technology can benefit their organization. They serve as decision makers in the plans for the implementation of the new MIS.Once decisions have been made, IT administrators, including MIS directors, are responsible for the implementation of the technology program. They also manage to implement MIS-related policies (either specific policies approved by CIOs or CTOs or policies that align new systems with IT policy organizations). It is also their role to ensure the availability of data and network services and the security of the information involved by coordinating IT operations.
