Livestock Applications

Livestock is often described as domestic animals raised on agricultural land to produce labor and supplies such as meat, eggs, milk, wool, leather and fur. This term is sometimes used to refer only to the allocated resources, and sometimes to only domestic crops, such as cattle and goats. Horses are considered livestock in the United States. The USDA classifies pork, veal, beef, and lamb as whole and all livestock as red meat. Chickens and fish are not listed.

The breeding, storage and slaughtering of animals, known as animal husbandry, is part of modern agriculture that has been practiced in many cultures from the transformation of mankind to the cultivation of hunter behavior. Animal management practices vary widely across cultures and time, and continue to play an important economic and cultural role in many societies.
