Fetus Journals

A fetus or foetus is that the unborn offspring of an animal that develops from an embryo. Following embryonic development the fetal stage of development takes place. In human prenatal development, fetal development begins from the ninth week after fertilization and continues until birth. Within 24 hours after fertilization, the egg that will become your baby rapidly divides into many cells. By the eighth week of pregnancy, your baby will change names from an embryo to a fetus. There are about 40 weeks to a typical pregnancy. These weeks are divided into three trimesters. The start of pregnancy is really the primary day of your last menstrual period. This is called the gestational age, or menstrual age. It’s about two weeks ahead of when conception actually occurs. Though it's going to seem strange, the date of the primary day of your last period are going to be a crucial date when determining your baby’s maturity . Your healthcare provider will ask you about this date and will use it to figure out how far along you are in your pregnancy.
