Veterinary microbiology deals with the various microbial (bacterial, fungal, viral) diseases in animals especially that supply food, other useful products, or companionship. Studies of antimicrobial resistance are also included in the various studies of animal microbiology. Veterinary Microbiology is concerned with the microbial (bacterial, fungal, viral) diseases of domesticated vertebrate animals (livestock, companion animals, fur-bearing animals, game, poultry, but excluding fish) that supply food, other useful products or the companionship. Microbial diseases of the wild animals are also studied in animal microbiology if the infections are of special interest because of their interrelation with humans (zoonosis) and domestic animals. Veterinary microbiologists are the physicians specialized in the study of microorganisms that cause infectious diseases in the animal species.
