Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a skin disease that causes the loss of skin color. It can affect the skin on any part of the body. It may also affect hair, the inside of the mouth and the eyes.Vitiligo occurs when the cells that produce melanin die or stop functioning.Vitiligo can be diagnosed by using physical examination. Blood test, thyroid test, skin biopsy. Vitiligo is of two types they are

a. Localised: They are defined as one or more lesions present on skin in one area.

Eg: focal Vitiligo, Vitiligo universalis.

b. Generalised: They are defined as several skin lesions in several areas.

Eg: Acrofacial Vitiligo, Vitiligo vulgaris, Vitiligo universalis.

The above mentioned types are diagnosed by physical examination and skin biopsy.
