Neonatal Conjunctivitis

Neonatal conjunctivitis is characterized by the swelling (inflammation) or infection of the tissue lining the eyelids in a newborn. It is also known as ophthalmia neonatorum. This usually occurs by the contamination of baby,s eyes with Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Chlamydia trachomatis during passage through the birth canal.
