Biography

Dr. Laishram Shantikumar Singh is currently working as Scientist, Microbial Biotechnology at Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development, Sikkim Centre, DBT, Govt. of India, Gangtok, Sikkim, India. He holds graduate and post graduate degree in Microbiology from Bangalore University, Bengaluru, India and received PhD degree in Microbial Biotechnology from Dibrugarh University, India through research at CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, Assam, India. He has worked on many government grant projects. He has received several awards and recognitions for his academic and research achievements, including Group Technology Award 2009 given by DRL, DRDO. Dr. Singh has over 15 years of research experience in the field of Microbiology, Biotechnology, Microbial Bioprospecting, After Ph. D. he has worked at University School of Biotechnology in GGSIP University, Delhi and also at corporate R & D sectors of Tata Tea Research Centre in APPL, Jorhat, Assam. He had taught Microbiology and Biotechnology courses as lecturer at Brindavan College, Bangalore University & Microbiology course as visiting faculty at CAEPHT, CAU, India. He has more than 15 research papers/book chapters publish in National and International Journal of repute & presented articles in many National and International conferences. He has published many research data in NBCI Genbank database. Many students have carried out M.Sc. dissertation projects as well as summer trainings under his guidance. He serves as a reviewer for many reputed journals including African Journal of Biotechnology, African journal of microbiology research, Pharmaceutical Biology, Medical Sciences, Indian journal of experimental biology, Journal of Basic Microbiology, World Journal Microbiology and Biotechnology, Fresenius Environmental Bulletin (FEB), Educational Research and Essays. He is also the Managing Editor of special Issue of frontiers in Biosciences 2018, as well as editorial member of many journal such as SciFed Journal of Immunology, Aperito Journal of Bacteriology, Virology and Parasitology; SciFed Journal of Flu Science; SciFed Journal of Virology. At present 2 JRFs are working for their PhD work in his laboratory and two project Assistants.

Research Interest

Microbial Diversity, Bioactive compound and antimicrobial agents from actinomycetes, endophytes, Biopesticides, Plant endophytes relation, Chemical Ecology of Endophytes, Fight against drug resistant and opportunistic pathogens, Antimicrobials from medicinal plants, Chromatographical analysis of secondary metabolites of microbial origin.
