Research Interest

My interest is focused on evaluating antimicrobial agents and investigating the effect of medicinal plant extracts on bacterial resistance and virulence. My understanding to the treatment strategies of infectious diseases is that the drug resistance still presents a major obstacle to their efficacy, despite many efforts to overcome these problems. Although the bulk of traditional antibiotics can still manage drug-resistant bacteria, many commonly used antibiotics are no longer effective. Medicinal plants have significant potential as a source of drug candidates, including antimicrobial agents. As it is well known that currently, many anticancer, antimicrobial and antioxidant drugs are derived from natural products. The development of antibiotic and chemotherapy resistance amongst pathogenic microorganisms has limited clinical options currently available and has led to major research efforts to find alternative therapeutics. There is thus a call for the development of new classes of drugs that work on different target sites to supplement currently used drugs.
