Biography

Dr. Laila Darwich was born in 1976 in Barcelona, Spain. She obtained the DVM (Extraordinary Award Mention) by the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB) (1999). In 2001, she completed the Master in Veterinary Medicine (UAB) and in 2004 the PhD degree in Veterinary Medicine, focused on PCV2 immunity. She was granted with a Post-doctoral position (2005-2007) at the HIV Clinical Unit (Institute of AIDS Research, University Hospital Germans Trias I Pujol) by the Spanish Government. She worked as Assistant Professor (2003-2005), Lecturer (2007-2012) and Associate Professor (currently) at the Infectious diseases and Epidemiology Unit (Animal Health department, Veterinary Faculty, UAB). She is also researcher associated to the Animal Health Research Center (CReSA-IRTA) working on pig infectious diseases and zoonosis. Finally, she is in charge of coordinating two Masters in One Health. Areas of Expertise: Viral immunity and immunopathology (HIV, HPV in humans; PRRSV, PCV2 in pigs); Epidemiology of infectious diseases in wildlife (bacterial and parasitic infections).
