Pelvic inflammatory disease is the inflammation of female reproductive organs or genital tract which leads to lower abdominal pain and fever. It is the primary preventable cause of infertility in women and also the most serious complications of a sexually transmitted disease in women. The symptoms include pain during urination, pain around the pelvis, heavy or painful periods.
