Dear Colleagues,

It is a real pleasure to announce the birth of Journal of Genetic Disorders, a new Open Access peer-review journal that seeks to disseminate scientific results and innovative practices employed in Genetic Disorders.

With growing evidence of genetic disorders affecting all living organisms on Earth, it is fundamental to move towards a mechanistic understanding of how these genetic disorders are generated and how we can deal with. Therefore, there is a urgent need for more and advanced scientific investigations that aim to understand the causes and propose effective treatment for Genetic Disorders affecting humans, but also other terrestrial and marine animals.

In this sense, Journal of Genetic Disorders came up to share scientific research reports, including original articles, review articles, case reports, short communications, etc., regarding to causes, diagnosis, treatments, and molecular and genetic reasons for genetic disorders. Its open access policy allows integrating science to everyone’s life and bringing scientific knowledge to the community, advocating for a more integrative society where scientific knowledge could be used as an instrument of transformation, driving flexible, peaceful and progressive changes.

I am a Marine Biologist with broad interest in the genomic, molecular and cellular mechanisms that underpin the formation, evolution and functioning of animals. My current and past studies encompass a wide range of marine invertebrates, some of which have traits of economic value and others that act as models to address fundamental questions in biology and biomedicine. In my research, I use modern molecular biology techniques, including genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics, coupled with advanced bioinformatics and computational biology approaches, to conduct data-intensive biology research where I can build approaches to answer biological questions in a comparative and comprehensive manner. My primary research fields are (i) functional genomics and evolution of biomineralization in animals; (ii) developmental genomics and evolution of cell types in animals; and (iii) genome evolution and animal adaptation. More specifically, I am interested in (i) understanding transcriptional regulation and evolution of gene regulatory networks underlying phenotypic diversity and cell type identity in marine animals; (ii) studying the genomic, cellular and developmental mechanisms that underpin the formation and maintenance of cell types, normal vs. aberrant cells, and tissues; and (iii) developing research projects where the scientific knowledge can be translated into biotechnological and biomedical applications, but also into the whole society.

I, as Editorial Member, strongly encourage scientists from disciplines as diverse as human genetics, livestock and marine sciences to submit their articles describing innovative practices and new results in the fields of Genetic Mutation, Genetic Reports and Molecular Genetics and their association with diseases and/or genetic disorders. Each submitted paper will go through a fast track review process and whether it gets accepted, it will be online in a short time, making your paper available and free for the scientific community, but more importantly to the entire society. You will become an important player of an active and open minded social network of authors, readers and editors, enhancing your international visibility and competitiveness in the scientific community.
