Biography

Dr. T. Oguz Acartürk is a member of the faculty of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He obtained his medical degree at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey. He then worked as a Research Fellow/Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh Division of Plastic Surgery and Carnegie Mellon University Department of Chemical Engineering on muscle tissue engineering and biomaterials. He then proceeded to complete his surgical internship and plastic surgical residency at the University of Pittsburgh. After graduating, he served in the Turkish Armed Forces as a Physician Officer at the Gülhane Military Medical Academy. Upon honorable discharge, he joined the full time Faculty in Cukurova University Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Adana, Turkey where he received an Associate Professorship degree. In 2007 Dr. Acartürk received the “Young Plastic Surgeon Award” by the European Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (EURAPS). Dr. Acarturk received a prestigious Scholarship to the University of Helsinki, Finland where his main interest was reconstructive microsurgery, orthognatic surgery and ear reconstruction. Dr. Acartürk was then recruited by UPMC to join the Department of Plastic Surgery as a reconstructive microsurgeon specialized in head and neck reconstructions. Dr. Acartürk has won numerous academic awards and written over 40 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, mainly as a the primary author, mostly related to microsurgical reconstruction, reconstruction of complex defects, and rhinoplasty, in addition to numerous basic science articles. He presented at many prestigious international conferences throughout the world. Dr. Acartürk is also involved in several clinical research projects at the UPMC mainly on head and neck microsurgical reconstruction, outcomes in microsurgery and complex trunk reconstruction. He is board-certified by the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. His specialized areas include microsurgical reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, upper and lower extremity reconstruction, maxillofacial trauma, reconstruction of the trunk, and rhinoplasty.
