Biography
Dr. Tan Joo Shun is a senior lecturer at Bioprocess Technology Division, School of Industrial Technology, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He has been assigned as manager for the Pilot Plant Facility at Bioprocess Technology Division. He was graduated with Bachelor of Science (Honours) Biotechnology from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman and obtained his PhD degree (Bioprocess Engineering) in 2012 from Universiti Putra Malaysia. He worked as postdoctoral researcher for three years. His researches involve molecular biotechnology and bioprocess technology where recombinant microorganisms were developed for production of biotechnology products. Examples of such projects were expression of recombinant human interferon-alpha2b, recombinant hepatitis B antigen and recombinant lipase. He also studied bioactive compounds in plants. He developed bioreactor system integrated with resins to increase the productivity of these proteins. His research work has been extended into the development of bioseparation to purify the bioproducts. He has published more than 45 papers in reputable journals.
