Biography

Dr. Williams, founding Chair of the Department of Biostatistics in the College, has a long history of involvement in academic public health and medicine, with a focus on training, clinical trials, data coordinating center operations and international collaborations. He served on the Steering Committee for the World Health Organization multi-country MONICA Project and was involved centrally in other WHO programs. He played a central role in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute collaborative studies in Israel, Poland, the USSR and China, with the latter three lasting almost 20 years each. He currently leads a NIH Fogarty International Center grant providing clinical research and capacity building training relevant to non-communicable diseases, especially diabetes, in India. The training grant is in its 12th year.
