Biography

I was born in Newton, Kentucky, in 1956. I received my medical degree from East Tennessee State University and Fellowships in both Nephrology and Cardiac Transplant from Oregon Health Sciences. I served as Medical Director of Adult Heart and Renal Transplantation programs at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee for 16 years, and I am currently the Medical Director of the Adult heart Transplantation program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. I have actively participated in heart and renal failure research as well as transplant related research including new treatments, adolescent transition, translational rejection testing, MCS devices, and immunosuppressive drugs, and establishing outreach clinics. My greatest career achievement has been giving quality care to my patients and being involved in educating the next generation of physicians and developing new treatment options for the future.
