Biography

Dr Gerrit Steffen Maier is currently working at the orthopaedic department at Pius Hospital, University Hospital for Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery Oldenburg., part of the European Medical School Oldenburg-Groningen. He is one of the university´s leading researchers in osteoporosis, vitamin D and bone infections. Dr Maier graduated from Georg-August-University Göttingen in 2010 with an excellent medical degree. He underwent orthopaedic education at the orthopaedic department of the University Hospital Mainz, Germany, where he also started his research in the area of osteoporosis and vitamin D. Furthermore, he worked as a resident in the department of trauma surgery at the University Hospital Gießen. Here he also participated in the multiinstitutional research project SFB/TRR79, with the research focus on bone substitutes in osteoporosis. Dr Maier is author of numerous publications in the field of vitamin D and osteoporosis.
