Biography
Dr. Felipe Aguilera Munozstudied Marine Biology at Universidad de Valparaiso (Chile) and did his PhD at The University of Queensland (Australia) in Evolutionary Biology and Bioinformatics, investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying shell formation in molluscs. His current and past studies encompass a wide range of marine animals, some of which have traits of economic value and others that act as models to address fundamental questions in biology, evolution and biomedicine. In his research, he use modern molecular biology techniques including genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics, coupled with advanced bioinformatics and computational biology approaches, to conduct data-intensive biology research, where he can build approaches to answer biological questions in a comparative and comprehensive manner. His primary fields of research are: (i) functional genomics and evolution of biomineralization; (ii) developmental genomics and evolution of cell types; and (iii) genome evolution and animal adaptation.
