Biography

In the 1970s, I trained in London in neurology under David Marsden, McDonald Critchley, William Goody and Brian McArdle and in psychiatry under Sir Desmond Pond, Eve Johnstone and Tim Crow. In the 1980s I ran a residency training program in psychiatry at the medical school in Jerusalem. I shifted to Australia around 1990. Since then I have been an independent researcher under the aegis of the Pierre Janet Centre. My research mentors were Perry London, Sidney Bloch, and Onno van der Hart. My publications and research interests have been principally been in the fields of history and philosophy of psychopathology, and nosology, dissociation stress and traumatic stress, suicide and violence, disorders of volition, and psychiatric service delivery. My clinical work has been in counselling, both individual and group, pharmacotherapy and in military and forensic psychiatry. I am currently completing a three volume study of suicide in history and the Holocaust for the Edwin Mellen Press, UK.
