Biography

I am a senior consultant breast surgeon at Tan Tock Seng Hospital with a keen interest in translational research. I obtained a DPhil from the University of Oxford in 2007 and since then have held several institutional and national level grants. My primary research interests are in the discovery and development of novel biomarkers and technologies for stratification and to target at-need risk subgroups. Apart from the discovery of novel predictive and prognostic biomarkers, my work also explores novel approaches to increase the efficacy and repurpose currently available treatments. Much of my work is done in close collaboration with the Genome Institute of Singapore and the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, at which I also hold a joint appointment. We have published several papers in high impact journals ad have obtained support from industry partners. I am also part of the Singapore-Malaya Breast Cancer Working Group, a large collaborative group that brings together groups from the region. My clinical expertise allows me to identify unmet clinical needs and my training in basic science allows me to understand and tailor novel laboratory findings into clinically practical applications. I believe this to be my greatest contribution to our ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and standard of care provided to women with breast cancer.
