Biography

Sergey Zimatkin, MD, PhD, Biology is Doctor, Full Professor, Head, Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology at Grodno State Medical University, Belarus. He graduated as a physician at the Grodno State Medical Institute (1974); postgraduate education at Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology (1974-1977); fellowship at Biomedical Research Center, ALKO Ltd., Helsinki, Finland (1986, 1991, 1993, 1994). He was also visiting professor at School of Medicine, Health Science Center, University of Colorado (1994, 1997, 2000); Fulbright Program at Health Science Center, Huston, Texas (2002). He has defended his PhD in Medicine (1979, at the 2-nd Moscow State Medical Institute, thesis: Morphofunctional changes in stomach and duodenum mucosa following vagotomy) and his Doctor of Biological Sciences degree (1990), He has awarded the Title of Professor in Morphology and Physiology (2001); He is participant and speaker over 30 international congresses, organizer and heard of the 6 Symposia (Stockholm, Copenhagen, Grodno, Paris, Heidelberg, Washington). Member of Editorial board of several research journals. He is the author of 11 research monographs and over 500 academic publications in basic and applied neurochemistry and neurohistology, experimental neuropathology, brain development and biomedical research on alcoholism (about 1000 citations, Hirsch index 17 on Scopus), 15 patents, more then 20 Textbooks and Manuals on Histology, Cytology and Embryology and he is also Supervisor of 10 doctoral theses. He has received several Grants: from Finnish Government, European Science Foundation, Soros Foundation for high level publications and participation in Congress in Australia, from NIH USA for research in Colorado University and participation in the Congresses in Washington and Denver, Fulbright fellowship from the USA Department of State, from Civilian Research and Development Foundation, etc.
