Dr. Sankar Devarajan is working as Associate Professor of Nutrition at Nutrition and Dietetics Program, Department of Human Sciences, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, USA. His previous positions include; visiting senior research scientist at the Department of Cardiovascular Diseases, Fukuoka University Chikushi Hospital, Japan, visiting faculty for Human Nutrition and Food Science at Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman, Assistant Professor of Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering at Vinayaka Missions University, India and visiting faculty at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, India.Dr. Sankar is the first researcher who invented the blood pressure and blood glucose lowering potentials of sesame oil and he was well honored by various health forums of the world for this research. Recently, he found that chymase, an angiotensin II forming enzyme, plays crucial role in salt induced hypertension, and in that he found the inhibition of chymase by a novel chymase inhibitor lowered blood pressure and improved renin-angiotensin system components.
Dr.Sankar has been honored by many awards ranging from a very recent, New Investigator Award from Diabetes and Metabolic Risk Factors Symposium, Hong Kong, New Investigator Award from International Society of Hypertension, South Korea, and International Atherosclerosis Society-Asia Pacific Federation Award Grant, Japan. Professor Arakawa Special award for hypertension research in Fukuoka, Japan, New Investigator Award Grant from Asian-Pacific Society of Atherosclerosis and Vascular Disease, Hong Kong, New Investigator Award from American Heart Association, USA, New Investigator Award from Polyphenols and Health Association, UK, Best Nutrition Research Innovation Travel award from Polyphenols and Health Association, UK, Shakuntala Amir Chand Best Biomedical Scientist Award by the Indian Council of Medical Research, India. He is serving as editorial board member/reviewer for many medicine and nutrition journals.
