Biography
Associate Research Professor of Public Health and Prevention for Youth; Research Centre of Innovations in Care, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (0.5 FTE) and Management Board Member.The research group of Public Care and Prevention for Youth is working on a research programme that has two objectives. It firstly aims to develop and test the indicated prevention programmes. The social goal here is to make a significant contribution to the enhancement of the resilience of youngsters, their parents and their teachers in order to (1) reduce, compensate for or make the youngsters? psychosocial problems bearable and (2) make these prevention programmes available to, and integrate them in, Rotterdam institutions for youth care and education as soon as the research group has demonstrated them to be effective. The research group develops and tests programmes aimed at both the youngsters themselves (research theme 1a) and their parents and teachers, with the goal to support them in the optimisation of educational complex basic contexts (research theme 1b). The aim here is to optimise youth care professionals? skills in order for them to be able to implement the evidence-based guidelines of indicated prevention programmes, as well as to make the methodologies accessible to, and integrate them in, Rotterdam youth care institutions, educational institutions and the curriculums taught by the Rotterdam universities of applied sciences and Erasmus University once the research group has demonstrated that these educational methods are effective.
