Biography

Dr. Michele Saviano his PhD in Industrial Chemistry at University of Naples, Faculty of Science, in March 1988. From 1989 to 1992, he was CNR Researcher at the Centro di Studio di Biocristallografia (CNR), Naples, Italy. From 1992 to 1998, he was Associated Researcher of Inorganic and General Chemistry at Faculty of Science of University of Naples “Federico II”, Italy. From 1998 to 2006 he was Senior Researcher at Istituto di Biostrutture e Biommagini (CNR) Naples, Italy, and, then, from 2007 to 2010 Director of Research. Actually, he is the Director of the Institute of Crystallography (CNR) Bari, Italy. He was the President of the Italian Crystallographic Association (AIC), and actually is the past-President of AIC. He is author of about 200 full paper published on international journals, patents, and many lectures to national and international congresses.

Research Interest

Dr. Saviano research interests lie in the field of peptide and protein chemistry. In particular, his studies include: a) de novo protein and peptide design; b) chemistry and conformational properties of peptides containing non natural amino acid residues; c) structural studies in solution (by NMR, FT-IR, CD and in the crystal state (by X-ray diffraction) of peptides and proteins; d) rational design of conformationally constrained analogs of bioactive peptides with enhanced in vivo stability; e) development of computational procedures in the conformational analysis of bioactive molecules at different complexity; f) rational design of rigid peptide scaffolds for molecular recognition or intramolecular interaction;
