Biography

Dr. Erin Speiser Ihde works as the Project Manager of Environmental Research at Hackensack University Medical Center,the flagship hospital of the Hackensack University Health Network. She conducts research, educational presentations and trainings focused on exposures to everyday toxicants and toxins. Her research to date includes assessing environmental factors associated with autism spectrum disorders, cancer and endocrine disruption; measuring biomarkers in mothers and newborns; conducting a pediatric clinical trial on a pesticide-free head lice treatment; and, examining the role of environmental health in breast cancer prevention. Additionally, she started the environmental health internship program at the Center in 2005, which has successfully trained college students in conducting environmental health research and education.She is a member of the hospital's Wellness Committee and has over 20 years of experience in environmental health advocacy on the community level, particularly with environmental justice issues. Dr.Ihde has established research collaborations with investigators at Georgetown University, Rutgers University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, the Meadowlands Environmental Research Institute and departments across Hackensack University Medical Center. She is a Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) from the Society of Clinical Research Associates, and serves on the training team for Hackensack University Health Network's Clinical Research Education Program (CREP).
