Dr. Synan Abu Qamar Dr. Synan Abu Qamar
Higher Plant Molecular Genetics, Coordinator of M.Sc. in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology Program, United Arab Emirates University, UAE

Biography

Synan AbuQamar completed his PhD from Purdue University/Department of Botany & Plant Pathology in 2003-2007; and his postdoctoral studies in the same university in the area of Molecular Genetics of Plant Immunity. In 2008, Dr. AbuQamar joined the Department of Biology at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) as an Assistant Professor. In 2014, he was promoted to Associate Professor. Synan?s current research interest is in the area of Plant Molecular Genetics/Plant Biotechnology. His research focuses on understanding the molecular and cellular factors that control plant defense response mechanisms against necrotrophic pathogens using the ?model? plant Arabidopsis thaliana and tomato as host plants. He co-authors a number of publications in peer-reviewed international journals. He also serves as an editorial board member of reputed journals and expert reviewers for many other journals. He is a member of different Scientific Boards of Centers for Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering in the region.

Research Interest

Functional genomics of plant defense responses to necrotrophic fungi; Molecular components of host defense signaling in response to necrotrophic pathogens; Interaction and cross-talk between signal transduction pathways in response to biotic and abiotic stresses.
