Biography

Dr. Li-Jen Kuo is currently an associate professor of literacy education at Texas A&M University. She received her Ph.D. in Cognitive Science of Teaching of Learning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also has a masters degree in Linguistics from the University of Illinois and a masters degree in Language Learning and Policy from Stanford University. She was a National Academy of Education/ Spencer postdoctoral fellow in 2008-2010. Her research interests are in the areas of language, literacy and cognition. She is particularly interested in how early bilingual experience shapes the development of typically-developing and atypically-development children. Her recent publications have appeared in high-impact journals in psychology (e.g., Frontiers in Psychology, Journal of Contemporary Educational Psychology, Journal of Experimental Child Psychology), literacy (e.g., Scientific Studies of Reading) as well as applied linguistics (e.g., Journal of Psycholinguistic Research).

Cross-cultural/ linguistic research on the interface among literacy, cognition and learning. Bi literacy development, second language literacy, meta cognition and metalinguistic awareness
